First I want to thank Congressman Bradley Byrne of Alabama’s first district for getting the truth out so quickly. He felt it important to “set the record straight” and issued an email to constituents on Sunday March 25, explaining the truth to the false claims that are making the rounds online and in the national news media.

Below is the truth vs. the false claims as sent out by Congressman Byrne and his staff.

“Claim: The Bill Funds Planned Parenthood.

FALSE: There is not a single penny of funding for Planned Parenthood. The bill does include the Hyde Amendment, which makes clear that no taxpayer money can be used to perform abortions. Additionally, the Trump Administration has made clear that they will not give grants to Planned Parenthood.

Claim: The bill gives a raise to Members of Congress.

FALSE: Pay for Members of Congress has been frozen since 2010, as it should be. This bill does not change that.

Claim: The bill does not include money for the border wall.

FALSE: The funding bill includes $1.57 billion for physical barriers along the Southwest border—in line with the administration’s request and provides funding for more than 95 miles of a border wall system, more than what the administration requested. It increases funding for border security and immigration enforcement, putting more “boots on the ground” and ensuring that detainees are referred to ICE instead of harbored by sanctuary cities.

Claim: The bill includes gun control provisions.
